These free events are taking place at the museum.

Tootles Tinies for Under 5s

  • Thursday, 14 August: Seaside

Calling all pre-schoolers, join us on a special Thursday of every month, between 11am and 12pm for storytelling, singing and crafting.

Be prepared to join in, make some noise and have some fun. No need to book just drop in. All children must be accompanied by an adult. This is a free event, but donations welcomed. 


Friday Lunchtime Talks: "Animal Myths" by Anthony Poulton Smith

  • 12:30pm to 1:30pm
  • Booking required

This talk examines some of the quite ludicrous ideas our ancestors once attributed to our animals without ever seeing them. Booking is essential.

FREE Saturday Make and Takes:  Postcards in the Park

  • 10:30am to 3:30pm

As part of the Park Reads Event, join us on a trail of postcards throughout the park and the Museum.  Then drop by to design your own. No booking required, just drop in.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  All activities are free but donations welcomed.


Hands On History Saturdays

Saturday, 30 August: Us and Them

  • 11am to 3:15pm

This handling sessions will explore the relationship between humans and animals through Museum objects. No need to book, just pop along and meet one of our Museum Access Assistants. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The activity is free but donations welcomed.


Summer Holidays Fun Time - FREE Make and Takes

Thursdays and Fridays during school summer holidays from 24 July 2025

  • Thursday 31 July - Make your own Roman Sword
  • Friday 1 August - Make your own Roman laurel wreath

Join us for some fun Make & Takes over the school Holidays on Thursdays and Fridays.  Activities run from 11am until 3:00pm and there is no need to book, just drop in. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The activity is free but donations welcomed.


Saturday 9 August - Family Events Day

  • 11am to 4pm

To compliment the Park Read Event organised by the Library, there will be lots to do at the Museum including a make your own Postcard activity, our second hand book stall and looking at some railway items from the collection.

Storytelling sessions are provided by Tom the Tale Teller at 11am, 12am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm. His tales of travelling, just so stories and adventures are for the whole family. Drop in, no booking required.

 All children must be accompanied by an adult. The activity is free but donations welcomed.
