Who are the HSP

The HSP are a small group of tenants and leaseholders who work as a team to help improve services for all council tenants and leaseholders. They look at the issues affecting tenants and leaseholders and make recommendations for improvement.

What the HSP does

The role of the panel is to:

  • prioritise and oversee tenant led scrutiny activities
  • review evidence and make recommendations for service improvements
  • monitor and review agreed action plans
  • tell other tenants what the panel is doing and encourage them to get involved

You can find out how they work in our terms of reference

Alongside the main Housing Scrutiny Panel we also operate several other specialist panels:

  • Assets Panel
  • Anti-Social Behaviour & Neighbourhood Panel
  • Independent Living Panel
  • Communication Panel
  • Complaints Panel

The HSP and all panels operate under the Council's Equality and Diversity Policy and welcomes members from all backgrounds.

Only by working with you and listening to what you tell us can we make sure we are providing services that meet your needs.

We recognise that your time precious, and so we aim to offer a range of opportunities to choose from, whether you have a few minutes to spare, or are able to commit to more regular slightly longer events.

If you are happy to be involved in any engagement activities, then we will of course offer you an incentive such as a shopping voucher of your choice, to thank you for your valuable contributions. We will do everything we can to ensure that engagement activities are accessible for everyone who wishes to be involved, and that we recognise the amount of time you are able to give.

But not only that, by becoming involved, you can:

  • help make a difference and improve your housing service
  • get to know your landlord better
  • get involved in the areas that you are interested in
  • get to know other people
  • add it to your CV, use and prove your skills in listening, finding problems and coming up with solutions

For any tenant or leaseholder that would like to become involved, we will also provide support and training, so it can be a good opportunity to voluntarily work with us, learn new skills and help to improve your neighbourhood.
