Fly-tipping and current legislation

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to £50,000 or 12 months imprisonment if convicted in a Magistrates' Court. The offence can attract an unlimited fine and up to five years imprisonment if convicted in a Crown Court.

  • if you pay a man with a van to take away your rubbish and they fly tip it, or you leave waste out for scrap metal and they fly tip it, you can still face penalties of up to £5,000
  • check that any person removing your waste for you carries a waste carriers license, send an email to enquiries@environment-agency.gov.uk

Fly-tipping is illegal. We will name and shame anyone prosecuted for fly-tipping.
