Statement of Licensing Policy consultation

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is reviewing its Statement of Licensing Policy which sets out the council’s policy for licensing and regulating businesses where there is sale of alcohol, provision of regulated entertainment or late night refreshment. This normally covers businesses such as pubs,clubs, restaurants, hotels, off licences and late night food takeaways.

Why are we consulting

We have updated our Statement of Licensing Policy for 2026-2031, and this draft policy is now subject to consultation.

Background

The Licensing Act 2003 (“the Licensing Act”) sets out four statutory objectives which must be addressed when licensing functions are undertaken. The licensing objectives are;

  • prevention of crime and disorder
  • public safety
  • prevention of public nuisance; and
  • protection of children from harm

The Council in its role as the licensing authority must carry out its functions under the Licensing Act with a view to promoting these objectives.

All responses to this consultation will be considered, and the feedback will help us develop the final Statement of Licensing Policy 2026-2031. The final decision about the policy will be taken by the Licensing Committee in November 2025.
