Discretionary housing payments

Can I claim a discretionary housing payment?

Discretionary housing payments are not payments of housing or council tax benefit.  They are separate payments made at the council's discretion in cases where it considers that extra help with housing costs is needed and are made from a limited budget allocated by the Department  for Work and Pensions.

You can claim Discretionary Housing Payments if you have received an award of housing or council tax benefit that does not cover the whole of your rent or council tax bill.
