Equality Impact Assessments

In helping us to fulfil our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 (and the Public Sector Equality Duty), the Council undertakes Equality Impact Assessments (EIA'S) when developing or reviewing our services, policies, strategies, practices or plans.

By carrying out an EIA, this ensures that, where possible, there is no adverse impact on any Protected Characteristics as a result of the decision being made. Sometimes, adverse impact might not be possible to avoid. However, an EIA will detail if there has been adverse impact and how the decision being made is justified. Within this decision, the Council is duty bound to consider reasonable adjustments to minimise or reduce any potential impact.

Each Council report taken through the decision making process will have an equality section which requires Officers to consider the equality implications of thier decisions.
