Nuneaton and Bedworth win at Local Authority Awards

Acknowledged for helping small businesses in the borough.

Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council has been recognised for its small business support.

Dennis Harvey Leader of the Council, Diane Coopey and Chris Lawes accepted the Best ‘Small Business Friendly’ Regulation Policy accolade as part of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) annual Local Authority Awards.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for all councils in Coventry, Warwickshire & Solihull to make known any project or initiative that promotes and champions local economic development.

Dennis Harvey, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said: “We’re pleased to have been awarded the Best ‘Small Business Friendly’ Regulation Policy.

“The work of our food team has supported businesses to improve food safety standards by working with the proprietors, rather than using enforcement procedures.

“Through educating our businesses in food safety the team were able to raise standards of food safety within the borough, which is a win: win: win, with real benefits for the food businesses, the council and consumers in the borough.”

Paul Miles Rogers, FSB Warwickshire and Coventry Chairman, said: “Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Councils application showed a specific regulatory campaign that focused on support and guidance to improve standards in the food sector, rather than enforcement.

“They recognised their challenges including language barriers and maximised on social media to reach their target audience and therefore to improve the overall service.”
