A new Town Board for Bedworth will be formed to agree a long-term plan for the town, councillors have agreed.

The new body will be responsible for administering the £20 million which was distributed to the town by the Government’s Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities earlier this year. In the latest announcement, funding was awarded to 19 other towns as part of the Government's long-term plan for towns.

The Board will include the town’s MP and an independent chairperson along with a range of local representatives, in line with Government requirements.

While the Borough Council remains the accountable body for funding and delivering plans, Town Boards are responsible for developing the town’s long-term plan, working closely with local people.

The Council’s ruling Cabinet agreed to set up the group at their meeting last night (Wednesday 10 April).

Explained Deputy Chief Executive at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Tom Shardlow:

“The Board needs to form a 10-year vision for the town based on engagement with local people. It will be required to develop a three year investment plan that is evidence-based.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to work with the local authority and other organisations in this area to get the best results we can from this Government investment.”
