Do you know somebody who has gone above and beyond in the borough community? You can now nominate them for a Civic Honour.

Following a decision made by the Civic Honours Sub-Committee on 23 September, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is inviting residents to nominate people they believe are deserving of a Civic Honour.

Civic Honours is the Council’s recognition programme open to anybody who has made a significant contribution to life in the borough.

Every nomination must be supported by a seconder, with sufficient information about why the individual is being nominated. Consent from the nominee is also required for data protection purposes, and remember, you cannot nominate yourself for a Civic Honour.

Nominations are made using the Council’s nomination form, available on the Civic Honours webpage, where you can find further information about the programme.

Submissions will then be validated before being considered by councillors as to which recognition, if any, will be awarded. These include:

  • Borough Award of Merit (an award for residents)
  • Names of places or streets in the Borough (awarded posthumously only)
  • Honorary Aldermen or Alderwomen (former councillors)
  • Mayoral Award (awarded at the discretion of the mayor)
  • Freedom of the Borough (the highest honour)
  • Freedom of Entry to the Borough (reserved for military personnel)

Applications must be submitted before 11:59pm on Monday, 26 October 2026.

Cllr Mike Bannister, Portfolio Holder for Resources and Internal Affairs, said:

“Civic pride has a long and proud tradition in Nuneaton and Bedworth, which is why we are delighted to continue this programme and shine a light on the borough’s community champions.

“These are people who have made a truly outstanding contribution to the lives of others and to our borough, often without seeking recognition or reward. They deserve the opportunity to have their efforts celebrated and their achievements recognised.

“We would encourage anyone who knows an individual who has gone above and beyond for their community to nominate them for a Civic Honour.

"This is a chance to recognise the unsung heroes who help make Nuneaton and Bedworth such a special place to live.”

Once nominations have been considered and recipients finalised, those successful will be invited to receive their award in early next year.
