The funeral arrangements for former Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth John Glass have been confirmed, with the service taking place on Monday, 24 August.
Mr Glass, who died at the end of July aged 74, will be remembered for serving as Mayor from 1996 to 1997, and for his long-standing commitment to the Borough with the legacy of his mayoral appeal.
During his year as Mayor, Mr Glass launched a civic appeal to raise money to establish a Life Education service in Nuneaton and Bedworth, funding the Borough’s first Life Education caravan to take drug and health learning directly to local schools.
As a councillor he represented Heath and Poplar wards.
The Borough Flag at the Town Hall will be lowered as a mark of respect on the day of the funeral.
Mr Glass is survived by his son Andrew and daughter Heather.
Cllr George Finch, Leader of the Council, said:
“I would like to thank former Mayor John Glass for his many years of service and commitment to the Borough.
“His contribution to our community will be remembered, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
