Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is delighted to announce the opening of the new Bedworth Skatepark to public use from Saturday, 22 August.
Work to create the new link paths to the skatepark is currently being completed.
The facility can be used by skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX bikes, in-line skaters and WCMX. Helmets and protective clothing should be used at all times.
A formal opening event will then take place in the coming weeks with further details to be announced soon, and it is expected the event will include competitions, prizes and professional demonstration riders.
The skatepark has been designed and built by Canvas, a nationally recognised skatepark company, and the facility aims to cater for beginners as well as more experienced riders and to allow progression in skills.
Elements of the skatepark include a rhythm section, bowl, street sections and a perimeter line.
Next stages of work at Bedworth Physical Activity Hub will see the creation of the permanent car park on the north side of the building and then the creation of the outdoor artificial floodlit pitch.
Cllr Bobbie Greenwood, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, said:
“We are excited to get the replacement skatepark completed and hope everyone will really enjoy using it, while keeping yourselves safe within your skills and ability.
“Watch out too for further details to be announced soon of an official opening event.
“We know people who don’t necessarily take part in organised sports or use a gym will have a lot of fun using the skatepark.
“In that way they will also get a significant amount of exercise at the same time, which is good for helping all the Borough’s residents to keep healthy and active.’’
Path routes in the Miners’ Welfare Park will change at the same time, with more of the main permanent path links being tarmacked and opened up which should improve the public’s ease of movement around the facilities.
We will open the wider parkland areas further on into 2027 once grass seeding which is taking place this Autumn has been properly established.
Your support in keeping off the newly levelled and soil areas, yet to be seeded and will take some time to established would be appreciated.
