Mask making fun

There’s more than ever to see and enjoy at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery this weekend.

Highlights include the opening of an exhibition by locally born artist Ismatjahan Ravat, Ismatjahan’s world.  There is also a meeting of the museum’s Friends Group.

Ismatjahan is a neurodivergent artist who finds joy in using materials and watching the way in which the colours and textures work together.

She takes time to create artworks, using patterns, repeating sequences and revisiting work to give it rich texture and depth.

She was born in Nuneaton and is now based in Coventry. Her work is often inspired by the textiles and garments that she wears.

This display features her paintings and delicately decorated boxes and ornaments.

Her work has included commissions for the City of Coventry Health Centre and the Government Art Collection.

As well as seeing Ismatjahan’s work younger visitors can take part in our free activity to make a pair of fashion sunglasses.

This is free and runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday, 4 July.  No need to book, just drop in. Activities are free but donations are always welcome. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Cllr Bobbie Greenwood, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said:

“As usual, there is a collection of fantastic events at our Museum this weekend with activities for all of the family.

“Ismatjahan’s exhibition will be excellent and we look forward to hosting a large number of visitors to enjoy her wonderful art work.

“Also, if you have ever wondered about getting involved in the museum’s Friends Group why not join our meeting on Saturday at 1.30pm.

“You can find out more about what the group gets up to over a cup of tea and a biscuit.’’

While at the Museum why not check out the temporary exhibitions.

Admission is free though donations are always welcome.
