Contactors BAM will carry out the essential works, the old centre was closed in March this year after the opening of the Bedworth Physical Activity Hub, the borough’s cutting-edge leisure destination.
Located in the Miners’ Welfare Park, Bedworth Physical Activity Hub brings a leisure destination that promises to transform how residents get active, connect and enjoy their free time.
The facility, brought to fruition with the help of £2.5 million funding from Sport England was several years in the making, and represents one of the most significant investments in leisure facilities the borough has ever seen.
The demolition phase for the old centre, which was officially opened in 1975 will involve the controlled removal of existing structures and preparation of the site for future construction.
The works represent an important milestone in delivering enhanced leisure amenities for the community.
Works will take place between 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend working only where necessary.
Activities will include dismantling of the building, removal of materials, and site clearance.
Some level of noise and dust is unavoidable during demolition; however, strict control measures will be implemented to minimise disruption to neighbouring properties and the surrounding area.
The site will be securely fenced and managed to ensure the safety of the public, particularly given its location within the community.
As with many buildings of this age, there is potential for asbestos containing materials to be present.
Comprehensive surveys and risk assessments have been undertaken, and robust control measures are fully embedded into the demolition process.
The measures are designed to ensure that works are carried out safely, with no risk to the public, workforce, or environment.
A spokesman for BAM said:
“We recognise the importance of this site to the local area and is committed to reducing disruption as much as possible.
“Measures will include dust suppression techniques, careful sequencing of works to reduce noise peaks and traffic management plans to control deliveries and vehicle movements.’’
Cllr Bobbie Greenwood, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, said:
“We appreciate your patience and understanding while these works are undertaken and look forward to delivering a revitalised leisure facility for the community to enjoy for years to come.’’
At Bedworth Physical Activity Hub, residents can enjoy an exceptional range of facilities all under one roof, with a 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool, a dedicated learner pool, a spacious four-court sports hall, and a 100-station fitness suite featuring the latest equipment.
The Hub also boasts a fitness studio, a specialist Reformer Pilates studio, as well as a grab-and-go style café facility.
There is more to come with phase two works, bringing an outdoor 3G sports pitch, a learn-to-ride area, an all-wheels skate and a bicycle hub, as well as improved parking with EV charging stations.
