Walkers at the 25th anniversary event

The success of wellbeing walks, which were set up in 2001 ,was marked by a special walk and celebration on Tuesday, 28 April.

Walkers met outside Riversley Park Museum and after the walk enjoyed a celebration gathering at the Pingles.

A spokesperson for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said:

“Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, with the help and support of our volunteers and participants has spent 25 years building our walking community into a thriving group of people from all parts of the borough.

“Walking is the easiest, most accessible, cost effective, and enjoyable way for most people to increase their physical activity while enjoying their local parks and green spaces.

“All walks are no more than an hour at a leisurely pace to afford the opportunity to chat and take in the scenery you walk.

“There is considerable evidence to show that exercise can improve physical and mental health.

“It can reduce the risk of a wide range of conditions including some cancers, muscular-skeletal conditions and coronary heart disease.

“One of the walks at the Pingles Track walk is a rehab appropriate walk open to all, no referral needed.

“It allows you to walk loops of the track near amenities such as toilets, seating and refreshments and is a great walk to build/rebuild strength and stamina with no pressure to walk any set distance, all with the benefit of having a qualified walk leader with you.’’
