This weekend sees a pair of activities designed to entertain and inform at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery.

On Friday, April 17, the lunchtime talk, which runs from 12:30pm to 1:30pm is How to be Good. Storytelling and Morality in Victorian Narrative Paintings by Jo Walton.

Just like us, the Victorians loved a good story, and this examines the rise of narrative paintings – pictures that told moral stories with all the verve and excitement of modern soap operas.

Stories of cads, bounders and fallen women jostle with gamblers, philosophers, and honest workers in the wonderfully detailed canvases of mid-nineteenth century artists.

The talk is free, but donations are welcomed, places are limited so booking is essential.

To book your place call the Museum on 024 7637 6158 or email museum@nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk

The following day, Saturday, 18 April, sees a Hands-on History session taking place titled Plastics to mark Earth Day.

The event explores the theme “planet vs plastic” through Museum objects.

Early plastics are difficult for museums to look after especially the degradation of colour, and this includes gas masks, phones, and plastic handbags.

Hands-on History Saturdays run from 11:00am until 3:30pm.

The Museum has more objects in its collection than can be displayed at one time and each month we bring a selection out of the store so people can get a closer look.

While at the museum, why not check out the temporary exhibitions.

For opening hours, visit the Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery webpage.

You can keep up to date with the museum on social media, by following the Facebook page or joining the Facebook group.
