Everybody that played a part in bringing Bedworth Physical Acivity Hub to the Borough

A new chapter for health, fitness, and community life begins today as the doors officially open to the brand-new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub (BPAH).

Located in the heart of the town in the Miners’ Welfare Park, Bedworth Physical Activity Hub brings a cutting-edge leisure destination that promises to transform how residents get active, connect and enjoy their free time.

This brand-new facility, brought to fruition with the help of £2.5 million funding from Sport England has been several years in the making, and represents one of the most significant investments in leisure facilities the borough has ever seen.

Designed to serve the community for generations to come, the centre replaces the former ageing leisure centre with modern, inclusive, and inspiring spaces that cater for all ages, abilities, and interests.

Since Tuesday, 10 March, residents have enjoyed an exceptional range of facilities all under one roof, with a 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool, a dedicated learner pool, a spacious four-court sports hall, and a 100-station fitness suite featuring the latest equipment. The Hub also boasts a fitness studio, a specialist Reformer Pilates studio, as well as a grab-and-go style café facility.

There is still more to come with phase two works, set to be completed in October, bringing an outdoor 3G sports pitch, a learn-to-ride area, an all-wheels skate and a bicycle hub, as well as improved parking with EV charging stations.

Set within enhanced green space and connected to walking, running, and cycling routes, the Bedworth Physical Activity Hub is more than just a leisure centre – it is a vibrant, state-of-the-art focal point for community wellbeing, active lifestyles, health and fitness, and social connection.

Cllr Brady Hughes, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, said:

“Today is a hugely proud moment for Bedworth and the wider Borough.

“The opening of Bedworth Physical Activity Hub is the results of years of vision, investment, and collaboration, and it delivers something truly special for our residents.

“The Hub is a welcoming, modern, and exciting place where people can swim, train, play sport, meet friends and build healthy habits for life.

“We are delighted to be able to open the doors today and see the community start to enjoy and make the brand-new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub their own.”

Lloyd Barraclough, Everyone Active’s Area Contract Manager, said:

“We are so excited to welcome the local community to this incredible facility, which offers something for everyone, no matter what your age, interests or ability.

“This centre will serve the health and wellbeing of local people for many years to come, and I would urge everyone to come down and make use of the state-of-the-art facility on their doorstep.”

Mandeep Singh, Associate Director at Hadron Consulting, said:

“At Hadron Consulting, we are proud to have acted as Project Manager for the Bedworth Physical Activity Hub, working closely with partners over several years to guide the project from concept through to delivery.

"Delivering a project of this scale in the current climate has required strong partnership, careful planning and a clear focus on long-term value.

"Despite the challenges presented by COVID and rising costs, the team remained committed to protecting the vision. Bedworth Physical Activity Hub is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and a shared ambition to improve health, wellbeing and opportunities for the community.”

Rachel Fowler, Managing Director at Strategic Leisure Limited (SLL), said:

“Strategic Leisure Limited is absolutely delighted and very proud to see the new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub open. We have worked with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council since 2016 on needs assessments, feasibility studies, funding bids and operator procurement to support the development and operation of this exciting project.

"It is a privilege to have worked on this facility which will have such a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Nuneaton and Bedworth’s communities.”

Matt McCreith, Senior Architect at GT3 Architects, said:

"We're incredibly excited and proud to see the completion of the new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub. It's the result of over five years of work and testament to the strength of conviction from NBBC, BAM, Sport England and design team to see this project through.

"For Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council this represents their commitment to providing state of the art leisure facilities for their constituents.

For GT3, this represents a fantastic community leisure facility built on strong engagement with stakeholders from conception to completion. Most importantly, for the local and wider community of Bedworth, this represents a new era in access to sport, leisure and active facilities that are essential to physical and mental wellbeing.”

Adam Harding, Regional Director, BAM UK & Ireland, said:

“Every part of the Hub, from the swimming pools and sports hall to the fitness and wellbeing spaces, has been designed and built with the community in mind. Delivering a project of this scale required close collaboration between BAM, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Everyone Active and the wider project team.

"Seeing the Hub ready to make a lasting, positive impact shows what can be achieved when partners share a clear vision. Together we have created facilities that strengthen, connect, and benefit communities well beyond the build.”

Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Executive Director, Partnerships and Place, Sport England, said:

“The doors are open and it’s clear to see that the Hub is far more than a sports and physical activity facility. It has been thoughtfully designed and built to bring communities together, connecting people with the active environment right on their doorstep and helping them make the most of the nearby green spaces.

“We are confident that our investment will make a real difference for the residents of Nuneaton and Bedworth, improving lives by creating welcoming places and spaces – both indoors and outdoors – where people can be active.”

The opening marks the conclusion of an ambitious project to improve health outcomes in the Borough by encouraging physical activity in high-quality places.

Bedworth Physical Activity Hub has been designed to bring people together, with accessibility and sustainability at its core, ensuring community needs are met now and in future generations.

The Hub is now open and ready to welcome the community with memberships, classes, and facility hire now available through Everyone Active’s website.
