Borough residents can have their views heard about the proposed Grand Union Canal (GUC) Transfer Project, a nationally significant water infrastructure scheme that would pass through the area.
The project is a joint proposal by Affinity Water, Severn Trent Water and the Canal & River Trust.
It aims to transfer up to 115 million litres of water per day from the Midlands to the South East using the existing canal network, including the Coventry Canal, Oxford Canal and Grand Union Canal.
Water would be sourced from a water recycling centre in Birmingham, treated at a new facility in Minworth, and transferred by pipeline to the canal near Atherstone.
It would then travel through the canal network, including sections within Nuneaton and Bedworth, before being transferred south of Milton Keynes to Luton for further treatment before entering the drinking water supply.

Cllr Tony Venson, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Enforcement, said:
“Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council will be a statutory consultee, and residents will have opportunities to comment.
“The developers expect to run a public consultation from 11 February to 3 April 2026 and further information will be shared as it becomes available.’’
Due to its scale, the project requires a Development Consent Order (DCO).
Applications are examined by the Planning Inspectorate, with final approval made by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
More details, including a route map, and sign-up for project updates are availabe from Grand Union Canal Transfer.
