A duck dressed in festive clothing

This New Year’s Day why not get out of the house and come and visit the museum?

There will be a special quiz trail for families to follow around the Riversley Park building.

The museum will still be looking festive, and there will be some special Christmas ducks for tiny visitors to find.

As usual, there are hands-on activities in the galleries for younger visitors, along with some great temporary exhibitions.

The annual show by Corley & Fillongley Photographic Club features more than 50 quality works, including a rich selection of portraits, nature, still life and action photographs.

Also on show will be two exhibitions celebrating the role that Nuneaton School of Art, now part of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College has played in the cultural life of the area.

One showcases the history of the organisation and some of the people who contributed to its development.

This exhibition on the Landing Gallery features several paintings and engravings from the museum’s art collection.

The White Gallery is exhibiting the work of 24 former and current students and tutors from the School of Art and its later incarnations; they vary massively from detailed drawings to abstract paintings, interesting sculptures and beautiful photographs.

Cllr Brady Hughes, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, said:

“There are plenty of superb activities lined up at our wonderful museum and art gallery over the coming weeks for visitors of all ages.

“Also, if you are at a loose end on New Year’s Day, please remember that we are open and will be hosting the quiz trail which will be tremendous fun for families.’’

The museum will be open 10:30am to 4:30pm on New Year’s Day, but if you cannot make it there is a decorate your own notebook activity for children on Friday 2 January from 10:30 am until 1pm and from 1:30pm to 4pm, there is no need to book, just drop in.

The museum closes for Christmas on Saturday, 20 December at 4:30pm and re-opens on Thursday 1 January at 10:30 am.

While at the museum, why not check out the temporary exhibitions. Admission is free though donations are always welcome.
