Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council formally adopted its Borough Plan Review (2021-2039) at Full Council on 10 December 2025.

This marks a significant milestone in planning for the Borough’s future growth and development.

The Borough Plan Review sets out a clear vision for sustainable growth and provides the framework for where development will be permitted across the Borough until 2039.

It addresses key needs and opportunities relating to housing by ensuring delivery of new homes, including affordable housing, to meet local demand and the economy by supporting business growth and employment opportunities.

It guides the provision of community facilities such as shops and open space, infrastructure and safeguards the Borough’s environmental and heritage assets.

The Plan was adopted following three rounds of public consultation between 2021 and 2023. It was then submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for independent examination on 12 February 2024.

Following hearing sessions held between July and October 2024, the Inspectors concluded the Plan is ‘sound’ subject to Main Modifications, which have now been incorporated into the adopted version of the Plan.

Cllr Chris Watkins, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said:

“I would like to thank everyone involved for all the hard work that has gone into achieving this result.

“A big thank you also goes to all of the people who contributed and gave their views to ensure we achieved a Plan that aligns with the needs of the community of the Borough and makes certain to positively help shape its future.”

Cllr Tony Venson, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Enforcement, said:

“I am delighted that the Borough Plan review has now been formally adopted, it is a true landmark for the Borough.

“With the adoption gaining cross-party support, our communities can be assured that the Plan provides a cohesive framework on which to progress a bright future for the Borough.

“Thank you to all those involved in the process of getting the Plan to this stage and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of its implementation.”
