Bedworth Leisure Centre and Pingles Leisure Centre in Nuneaton are celebrating Restart a Heart Day with the news they have delivered CPR training (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) to more than 800 people in the local community.
The centres, run by award-winning operator Everyone Active in partnership with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, began running the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s Save a Life Series (RLSS UK) in June 2024.
The free sessions recently received a further £2,355 in funding from the County Councillors’ Grant Fund, so they can continue to be staged.
Ahead of Restart a Heart Day on Thursday, October 16, some 831 people have benefitted from the training, which takes place both at the sites and out in the community.
The centres have worked with the likes of the St Thomas More Catholic Academy and St Michael's Children and Family Centre, and it is hoped the initiative will be expanded to more community groups in the coming year.
On Restart a Heart Day, CPR workshops relating to the life-saving treatment of babies, children and adults will be staged at Bedworth Leisure Centre. If you wish to book, please contact the reception team on 0247 649 9010.
According to RLSS UK, 77 per cent of people either do not know or are unsure of how to perform CPR and millions of people would not know how to give basic first aid to another adult.
Lloyd Barraclough, Everyone Active’s Area Contract Manager, said:
“We are proud to hold these sessions at our centres and out in the community, giving people the chance to learn how to save a life.
“We hope people of all ages continue to take the opportunity to equip themselves with these incredibly valuable skills, all in a friendly and supportive environment.
“We would encourage everyone to get involved both in Restart a Heart Day and in the future, and we hope to break through the 1,000 people trained barrier soon.”
Cllr Brady Hughes, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, said:
“This is an extremely valuable skill for anyone to learn and I would encourage people to take the opportunity to participate in one of these sessions.
“It is an amazing scheme that is benefitting communities across our Borough and I am extremely proud of the work that is being carried out.”
