Former Nuneaton and Bedworth Mayor Cllr Bill Hancox’s civic appeal has raised more than £45,000.
The appeal, which was launched in July 2024, ran for 10 months and the beneficiary was the Breast Care Unit at the George Eliot NHS Hospital in Nuneaton.
This service is vital to women at every stage of their journey, providing essential expert clinical and emotional support to patients.
The Mayor and Mayoress, Alderwoman Sheila Hancox, worked in partnership with the hospital and the Breast Care Unit.
The aim was to raise awareness of breast cancer, affecting both women and men and the amazing work done by the staff in difficult circumstances in their existing premises.
The total amount raised for the appeal was £46,439.88.
Monies raised will also help them to move into new premises on the hospital site and this will be a much larger unit enabling more patients to be treated.
Already, due to the awareness campaign the number of patients treated has approximately doubled and Cllr Hancox and Alderwoman Hancox as ambassadors will continue to help the hospital to achieve the move.
Cllr Hancox said:
“The generosity shown by people was absolutely amazing, without taking anything away from anyone I would also like to thank others that have supported us in organising events such as mountain climbs.
“This includes staff at the breast care unit, Stockingford Pavilion and Stockingford Sports and Social Club, the 30 Signal Regiment and Queen’s Gurkha Signals at Gamecock Barracks, and Matt Sherrington, landlord at The Horseshoes pub.
“Finally, the Mayoress, my wife Sheila for her fundraising teas at Bedworth Cricket Club, and her support for me during our civic year.’’
There were also many visits to the Mayor’s Parlour by community groups who made donations to the appeal.
