Ropewalk Car Park

Ropewalk Car Park users will soon see an upgraded parking system which uses ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) technology.

The new system will go live on Tuesday next week (1 July) and will replace the existing ticket and Ringo app payment system.

During the installation date, Monday, 30 June, the car park will remain fully open and we will aim to keep any disruption to users to the minimum.

ANPR cameras will automatically recognise the vehicle registration on entry and users will simply type their registration in at the pay station before driving to the exit.

Being a completely cashless new system, users will be able to pay contactless using a credit or debit card, or via Apple Pay or Google Pay.

This will benefit car park users by reducing waiting times and congestion, especially during peak hours.

A pay station system will also be located within Pure Gym to allow gym members to validate their two hours free parking per day. Any extended time will be payable at the pay station within the gym or at the main Ropewalk Car Park pay stations.

Car park users in possession of a Blue Badge will be able to scan their badge barcode at the pay station to obtain their free hour of parking.

Cllr Nicky King, Portfolio Holder for Business and Regeneration, said:

“This new system is a will help improve the Ropewalk Car Park in a cost-efficient way.

“It will not only bring added benefits to the car park users by reducing waiting times and queues, but it also saves the Council and its tax payers time and money by increasing efficiency.

“Please bear with us as we install this new system, there may be a small amount of disruption on the installation date, but we will work hard to keep this to the minimum.”
