Earlier this week, the Mayor, Cllr Jill Sheppard hosted a reception to thank those who took part in the Borough’s Christmas windows competition 2016.
The competition gave local businesses the opportunity to promote themselves on social media and showcase the fantastic retail offer to be found here in Nuneaton and Bedworth.
First prize went to Joco Interiors of Nuneaton (right), who scooped a promotional video by Benco, 12 months membership of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and 12 months free advertising on the FindaDiscount website (www.findadiscount.co.uk).
Owner Joanne Williams estimates that the competition pulled in an extra £3,000 of business within a month and generated lots of new custom through social media channels. She said:
“I’ve really enjoyed this evening and have some news to come from the competition; I have been inspired to enter a national award - New Gift Retailer of the Year.
“It will help to promote the town if I win - if I get into the finals I will be screaming from the roof tops - and you will hear me!”
The competition’s second prize went to Katz Fancy Dress (left) and third prize to Accessorize. Special mention was made of market entries by Jones’ Flowers in Nuneaton and Curio Collectibles in Bedworth, together with entries from the Rotary Community Charity Shop and the Mayor’s Café by People in Action.
The competition attracted 55 entries across the borough and a big social media buzz using the #NBxmaswindows16 and #NBxmaswindows2016.
Cllr Jill Sheppard said:
“It’s been an inspiring evening and I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to thank those who took part in this competition, it’s had such a positive impact and helped to promote Nuneaton and Bedworth to a wide audience. I’m really grateful to Amanda Bourne from FindaDiscount and Adrian Young from the FSB who have supported this competition and made it such a success.”
Cllr Dennis Harvey, Leader of the Council said:
“It’s wonderful to hear that this competition has generated new business and interest for our towns. We have so much to offer here in Nuneaton and Bedworth, it’s good to find creative ways to entice new customers and support our local businesses.”
Chair of the judging panel, Amanda Bourne of Find-a-Discount said
“It’s fabulous that the competition has had such a positive impact and through the power of social media, brought new customers to our towns. We’re really looking forward to our next initiative, a special Valentine’s competition, which will be a lot of fun and good for local business.”
