A former derelict brownfield site in Nuneaton, which once contained prefab housing, has been transformed into a development of 14 affordable, state-of-the-art homes.
The development at Vale View in Nuneaton includes an assortment of modern one, two and three-bedroom properties, all built to the Nationally Described Space Standards (NDSS) set by the Government.
The homes include several environmentally sustainable features including solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, which ensure that the homes are extremely efficient and affordable to run.
The Scheme has also achieved a 10 per cent Biodiversity Net Gain. This means the development has ensured that nature has been left in a measurably better state than it was before, with a 10 per cent increase in biodiversity.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is committed to building more Council properties for the residents of the borough and is continuously looking at ways to improve the housing stock.
Cllr Chris Watkins, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:
“I am very happy to see this site go from what was a derelict and neglected area to a development of hi-spec, modern homes, with a measured increase in levels of biodiversity.
“The Byford Street development of 12 new homes was also completed in September 2024, so it has been a fruitful time for delivering much-needed, affordable homes to the people of the borough.
“This is set to continue as we are due to start on site with a further two developments that will provide a further 29 new affordable and high spec homes.”
Homes England contributed £868,000 to fund the project, Head of Growth for Homes England, Deborah Casey, said:
“We are pleased to continue to support Nuneaton and Bedworth in their development ambitions for high quality, much needed affordable housing.”
