Opportunities in Nuneaton brought to leading London property show

Published on Thursday, 27th October 2016

Four sites which could help transform Nuneaton town centre were marketed at a major property exhibition and conference this week.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC), Warwickshire County Council (WCC) and Coventry & Warwickshire LEP (CWLEP) were among the partners attending MIPIM UK, the country’s largest property exhibition and conference, at Olympia, London.

NBBC, WCC and CWLEP were launching a new town centre brochure at a round table discussion hosted by the Department of Communities and Local Government. Attending this exchange of ideas and opportunities were potential investors and developers.

The four sites being promoted were the car park opposite the Justice Centre on Vicarage Street (1.67 hectares), Abbey Street car park (1.4 hectares), Nuneaton bus station (1.16 hectares) and the square outside of Nuneaton train station, where there are plans to create an improved walkway to the bus station. New mixed use development will complement the existing heritage assets and will further enhance the character of the town.

Leader of Warwickshire County Council, Cllr Izzi Seccombe, said:

“MIPIM UK was a fantastic opportunity for us all to promote the opportunities of Nuneaton and build on the work we have done since attending MIPIM in France earlier this year."

Cllr Dennis Harvey, leader of Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council, said:

“We are looking to develop exciting new opportunities within the town centre, using Council owned land as a driver for change and to bring in investment. We will work closely with private and public sector partners to ensure the ambitions of the town are delivered.

“The vision is for the town centre to continue to be the primary local centre for shopping, leisure and business while also encouraging the highest quality mixed use, pedestrian friendly environment. It will be a place where people spend their leisure time during the day and evening and will be attractive to people of all ages.

"Warwickshire County Council, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and CWLEP have been working hard together to drive change and promote economic growth. This event was the opportunity we have been waiting for on the road to make Nuneaton town centre a place that is magnet not only for businesses creating jobs and wealth, but for people to spend time and leisure enjoying the experience."

Cllr Phillip Johnson, chair of Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said:

"The show provides an opportunity to engage with potential investors and developers and highlight the many opportunities available in the transformation of Nuneaton.  Our MIPIM UK presence continues under a Fast Track theme, as the sub-region continues to be a popular location for investment and in Coventry & Warwickshire we have shown in recent years that we can make things happen and that we are easy to do business with."
