Two men have been sentenced after Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council put a Closure Order in place.
Following the order, made at a property on Drayton Road in Bedworth, two males were discovered inside the house on Tuesday, 24 September.
The order on the property was put in place by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council on Friday, 20 September, for a period of three months.
It was implemented after numerous reports of anti-social behaviour linked to the property, which had a negative effect on the community.
Following this, a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old man of no fixed address were arrested on suspicion of breaching a court order, with the 41-year-old man further arrested for possession of class B drugs.
Ricky Morrison was given a two-week prison sentence for possession of cannabis, remaining on or entering a premises in violation of a closure order, and failing to attend an initial assessment for drugs.
This has activated a previous suspended sentence order, so he was sent to prison for a total of 10 weeks.
Wayne Morrison was also found guilty of remaining on or entering a premises in violation of a closure order, but his detention was deemed served by reason of time already spent in custody.
Cllr Chris Watkins, Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:
“We will not put up with anti-social behaviour of any type in our Borough, because it can make the lives of people in neighbouring properties a misery.
“We are pleased to see that our team’s work in obtaining the closure order is another example of the hard work our council does to challenge anti-social behaviour and support police.’’
Sgt Chris Studd of Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team said:
“Members of the public told us the property was a magnet for antisocial behaviour, so we worked with the Council to get it closed.
“This meant that we were able to take swift and effective action against two men who thought that they could continue with business as usual at this house.
“Thank you to the community for highlighting this problem to us, if there’s something bothering you in your area, don’t hesitate to let us know so we can sort it.”
