Check your fire doors

Fire doors are an essential means of keeping you safe in the event of a fire.

Intact fire doors will prevent a fire spreading and keeping smoke away. However, fire doors will only stop a fire spreading if the doors are not damaged and are kept closed.

What should I do if my front door is damaged

  • If your fire door is damaged, complete a housing repair form or call our repairs team on 024 7637 6344 immediately

Ensure that your front door remains intact, and be mindful of the following:

  • Are there any alterations or damage to the doors, for example, to glazing systems, ironmongery, letter plates, air transfer grills or door closers
  • Are there any gaps around the door itself or between the door and door frame, are the seals and hinges fitted correctly
  • Does the door closer shut the door completely
  • Does the door close around the whole frame
  • Is there any visible damage to the door

You must never alter your fire door in any way, and you must not:

  • Replace
  • Adjust
  • Repair
  • Modify

Making changes to fire doors will affect their ability to keep you safe.

You must also ensure that:

  • You keep fire doors closed at all times. Fire doors must be kept closed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke.  You must not wedge any fire doors open
  • You do not tamper with fie doors or self-closing devises

All fire doors in communal areas will be inspected during block inspections.
