Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has been selected by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) as one of just 66 local authorities in England to receive a dedicated £270,000 cash injection from the national Playground Fund.

Because this fund targets areas with higher child income deprivation and a clear need for better recreational spaces, the council has specifically earmarked this entire allocation to benefit the Bedworth area.

What this funding means for Bedworth

  • Three targeted upgrades.  The £270,000 grant is designed to fully upgrade or refurbish three existing playgrounds across the local area
  • No cost to local taxpayers: This is a non-competitive, ring-fenced central government grant. It will not take funds away from other local council services
  • Two-year delivery: The funding will be split and spent across the 2026/27 and 2027/28 financial years
  • Focus on inclusion: Money will be used to make existing play more modern and more accessible so children of all physical and learning abilities can play together

Why we need your input

The government requires local councils to design these play spaces in partnership with local families. We want to ensure that Bedworth’s allocation is spent exactly where and how the community needs it most.

We need parents, carers, and children to help us choose:

  1. The right locations: Which three new or existing playgrounds in Bedworth are in the most urgent need of a makeover
  2. The right equipment: What features are missing (for example, more accessible swings, sensory play areas, better seating for parents, or climbing frames for older kids)
  3. Safety improvements: What would make you feel safer using these spaces (for example, better fencing, clearer visibility, or updated flooring)

The Council has identified four sites that could benefit from improvements, which are all within the Built Up Area (BUA) specified by Government for the funding. We would like to know your thoughts on which three of the four sites you would like to see redeveloped and then what type of play facilities you would like to see.
