Flats and sheltered accommodation bins
Most flats and sheltered accommodation complexes in the borough have large communal bins provided to them rather than wheelie bins for household refuse only.

Help us to give you the best possible service
- Use the correct bins for your waste; do not use the blue recycling bins for normal refuse; this will result in collection delays
- Shut the bin lids after use; leaving them open could attract flies and vermin to the area and impose a health risk
- Ask neighbours and visitors to keep bin collections in mind when parking; many flat collections do not take place when scheduled due to access issues
Do not put in things such as electrical items, clothes and DIY waste into the communal bin.

Take these items to Judkins Household Recycling Centre or taken to a recycling bank.
Bins provided
Flats and sheltered accommodation complexes are serviced separately to households, on a different service. The size and number of bins provided depends on the:
- number of residents
- storage space
- access for residents and collection staff
The general waste bin types can range from large green bins to metal silver bins with green lids. The communal recycling bins are blue. The general refuse bins are currently collected weekly.
Bulky items left in bin areas
Leaving furniture or bulky items within the bin store area or in a communal bin is a criminal offence of fly tipping. If found guilty, fly tipping carries a fine of up to £50,000
Bulky items can be taken to Judkins Household Recycling Centre or taken to furniture re-use shops and/or furniture charity shops within the borough.
