Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is taking another step towards ensuring that its interim high court injunction to protect its land from unauthorised encampments is secured as a final order.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is taking another step towards ensuring that its interim high court injunction to protect its land from unauthorised encampments is secured as a final order.

A date for a High Court directions hearing in a battle to turn its interim injunction that helps protect its land from unauthorised gypsy and traveller encampments into a final order has been secured.

Following the confirmation by the Supreme Court issued last November, that councils act legally when they use an injunction to stop such unauthorised encampments, the Council’s legal team persevered with their cause.

The High Court date to review the evidence in the Council’s bid will be 27 March 2024.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council Deputy Leader and Chair of Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Communities Partnership, Cllr Clare Golby, was happy that a date for the hearing has been announced, she said:

“I would like to congratulate the Council’s legal team on all the work they have completed in getting us to this position.

“Following on from the Supreme Court backing last November, this is another great step towards ensuring that the Council’s interim high court injunction to protect its land from unauthorised encampments is secured as a final order.

“There is still further work to be done, but we are determined to continue the fight to protect our Borough and ensure the interests of our residents are upheld.”
