Nuneaton Market partially cancelled as Storm Jorge brings gale force winds

Published on Friday, 28th February 2020

Nuneaton’s regular street market has been cancelled for tomorrow, Saturday 29 February.

Traders selling perishable goods have been offered the opportunity to trade directly from their vehicles throughout the day. Rain and strong winds over 40mph are forecast for Saturday, the severity of which are beyond the recommended tolerance for the stalls and make it unsafe to set up and run the market. It is understood that other local markets have also cancelled their Saturday market on similar grounds.

Jonathan White, Head of Town Centres and Marketing said:

“It is always unfortunate when we have to cancel the market but we have no choice but to take this decision in the interests of public safety. We are still allowing trade of perishable goods from vehicles to take place.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused but hope that everyone can understand that from time to time decisions like this are absolutely necessary in order to prevent accidents.”
