Nuneaton to receive up to £25 million via Government Fund
Published on Friday, 6th September 2019
Nuneaton has been earmarked as one of 100 towns set to benefit from funding of up to £25million from a new Government Towns Fund it has been announced today.
This news comes shortly after Nuneaton was shortlisted to receive up to £150,000 from the Ministry of Housing to prepare a bid to the Future High Street Fund.
The potential cash injection could provide an enormous boost to plans to renew and reshape the town in line with the broader national initiative and will align with the Transforming Nuneaton project, a partnership between Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council and the CWLEP
Cllr Julie Jackson, Leader of the Borough Council said:
“Following success of our Future High Street bid, this is more fantastic news for Nuneaton. We have high ambitions for our town centre and this could help immensely to put our ideas into practice and help us to recognise our plans to regenerate the town. We are seeking some further information from the government on what the bid process and timescales will be.
“We will also be seeking confirmation of whether there will be any opportunities for Bedworth town centre amongst this funding. We are still aiming to submit a bid for Bedworth in the next Future High Street bid, when fresh submissions are invited in the New Year.”
Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Leader of Warwickshire County Council said:
“This is once again wonderful news for the Borough, our plans for Transforming Nuneaton could be further improved by the funds which seek to create a vibrant and thriving Borough and ensure that our town centres fulfil their huge future potential.
“These are exciting times for Nuneaton and Bedworth and these funding opportunities will help fulfil our aspirational ambitions for both town centres.”
