Council Tax Reduction Scheme Consultation

We would like to hear your views on some options to change our Council Tax Reduction scheme.

The options aim to provide an increased level of assistance for applicants and make the system simpler to administer by aligning parts with other benefits such as Universal Credit.

The Council is keen to reduce hardship within the area and the changes will provide better assistance to working age applicants on the lowest income and allow the Council flexibility in dealing with claims generally. The Council also needs to consider the cost of the changes and the impact that this may have on the other services that the Council provides.

Customers who would be affected by this scheme are working age applicants in the Borough who currently receive or will apply for Council Tax Reduction in the future. Pension age households will not be affected as Central Government prescribe their scheme.

Cllr Julie Jackson, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance and Civic Affairs said:

“If implemented the changes will ensure a smoother running of the system as a whole and help to make it easier to use and administer. We really do value the views of our residents so please help us shape this scheme for you by participating in the consultation.”

In order to give you the opportunity have your say on the options being put forward the consultation will start on 6 September 2019 and last for 7 weeks, closing on 25th October 2019.
