Progress on the Borough Plan

Published on Tuesday, 24th May 2016

As a result of new evidence that has emerged, it has been necessary for the Council to adjust some of its milestones for the production of the Borough Plan, building in more time for investigation and research.

Cllr Danny Aldington, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development said:

‘The Borough Plan is such an important piece of work; once agreed, it will map out development in this area, not just for the next few years, but for decades to come.

Work is still needed to ensure that the Plan is robust and reflects local opinions. The process takes time and is organic in nature; if issues arise that need investigation, research or further consultation, we must respond accordingly, as we are doing so now.

Getting it right is the important thing and if this means that we have to rethink some of the target dates we originally had in mind, then so be it. We are working speedily and efficiently but we have a responsibility to the people of the Borough to do a thorough job.’
