Climb4Life goes to town
Published on Monday, 23rd May 2016
Rock climbing offers unique physical and mental challenges and is recommended by the NHS. Want to have a go? Drop into town to try out the Council’s new mobile climbing tower.
Here’s where you’ll find the tower with our Climb4Life team over the next few weeks:
Tuesday 24th May Bedworth town centre, All Saints Square
Wednesday 25th May Nuneaton town centre, Church Street
Friday 27th May (Bun Day) Bedworth town centre, All Saints Square
All visits take place between 10am and 4:30pm.
Cllr Ian Lloyd, Portfolio for Arts and Leisure said:
‘According to the British Mountaineering Council, there are about 5 million visits to climbing walls each year in the UK but as you see, you don’t have to go far here in Nuneaton and Bedworth! Our mobile climbing wall offers our residents and visitors the chance to try out this exciting sport for just £1 a go, which is far cheaper than local climbing clubs. It’s fantastic physical exercise for all ages and abilities and great for mental agility too.
Almost anyone can rock climb, I’ve had a go on our tower myself. It caters for people of all ages, fitness levels and abilities and despite its image as an athletic sport, you don’t need to be super-fit as I can testify. Good technique is more important than physical strength, although the more you climb the stronger and fitter you will become.
I hope that you’ll come along to try it out for yourself, our Climb4Life team can’t wait to show you how to reach new heights of fitness!’
Prepare ahead by completing a registration form which is available to download on our website www.nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk or pick one up from the Town Hall in Nuneaton or the Civic Hall in Bedworth. All climbers will need to complete this registration form and, if they are under 18, they must get it signed by a responsible adult. The form can be emailed back to us or brought along to hand to an instructor at the session.
Some restrictions do apply - please refer to the website or email your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org
