Strong winds force market cancellation

Nuneaton’s regular street market has been cancelled for tomorrow, Saturday 10 August, due to forecasts of strong winds. Met Office yellow warnings are in place for much of the UK, with many other events being cancelled across the country.
With forecast wind gusts of up to 48mph, it is not safe to erect or operate from market stalls. Trading will be limited to just those regular market traders with perishable goods who are able to trade from their vehicles.
Jonathan White, Head of Town Centres and Marketing said:
“Unfortunately, the wind speeds forecast throughout the day are way beyond the tolerance of our market stalls, so we have had no choice but to cancel for reasons of safety.
“We can’t take risks and public safety is paramount; if stalls were to be blown over it would be very dangerous.”
