We're about to start our annual canvass

Each year we ask all households in the Borough to complete a household enquiry form (HEF) so that we can check that we hold the correct information on our electoral register. We will be starting this annual canvas very soon, with forms hitting doormats during the week commencing 12 August.

The law requires residents to respond to the canvass and failure to do so could lead to a fine of up to £1000. If your name is not on the electoral register you will not be entitled to vote in any elections or referendums and you may also have trouble obtaining credit such as a mortgage or loan. Paying Council Tax does not automatically put you on the electoral register.

We ask residents to respond quickly to the canvass so that there’s no need for reminders, which cost money and create delays. Responding online or by our Freephone 0800 197 9871 is the simplest, quickest and cheapest way to respond. If you do this you do not need to return the paper form.

A new register will be published and available for inspection on 1 December 2019 following completion of the annual canvass.
