The third Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Business Expo has been hailed a success, with much positive feedback being received from delegates.
More than 100 Nuneaton and Bedworth business leaders came together for the event to map out a path to success for the borough over the coming years. The event, held earlier this month at Ambleside Sports Club, brought high-level business representatives together for a morning of networking and informative talks from distinguished speakers including Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council leader Councillor Julie Jackson.
Councillor Jackson opened the proceedings declaring that the Borough is ‘open for business’, highlighting the many projects in the pipeline, she said:
“Several exciting Borough ventures have recently come to fruition, with many more on the horizon. The Transforming Nuneaton project is in full swing with the construction of the town centre retirement flats, purchase and re-development of the old Co-op and completion of the Coton Arches improvements. With the recent adoption of the Borough Plan too, there will be many more new and exciting opportunities for future residential and economic growth across the Borough.
“All of these projects will grow the Borough's appeal for future businesses and increase employment opportunities. These are exciting times and it was great to see a buzz at the Expo with businesses discussing the multitude of forthcoming possibilities.
“Once again the event has proved its worth as the number one place to go for invaluable information and networking within the Borough and beyond.”
This past year has seen many projects come to fruition; The Transforming Nuneaton program in full swing with the development of the town centre retirement flats, the purchase and development of the old Co-op and the Coton Arches improvements. NBBC has also just embarked on one of the largest modular housing projects in the UK, with 28 dwellings across 4 sites and sign-off for the Borough Plan last month too means that the Borough is a hub of activity.
Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) Growth Hub account manager Gary Thyeson spoke of the booming businesses helping grow the local economy, he said:
“At the Growth Hub, we offer impartial advice to help businesses of all kinds grow and over the last twelve months we have assisted in bringing £750,000 of investment to the area through our clients.
“We have worked with some real success stories such as Indigo Fitness, helping them move into new premises in Nuneaton and Cogsdill, a firm with a huge history that is continuing to create jobs for the area.
“There are so many positive stories out there and we need to ensure that these are all being capitalised on so we can grow the borough’s business together.”
Simon Biggs, a former police officer now working as a Principal Incident Response Specialist at IntaForensics, who are based at Eliot Business Park, gave the audience an insight into the importance of cyber security during his speech before Adam Weaver from Savills spoke about plans for the future of the Arbury Estate, which he has managed since 2008.
John McGuigan then discussed the Transforming Nuneaton initiative, a joint programme between Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council, upon which he is advising.
A plan has been developed to take advantage of Nuneaton’s status as the largest town centre in Warwickshire and translate that into a stronger economic and social performance. John said:
“We have to look to the future and see what we can do to change and move with the times.
“The face of town centres is changing, we need to be diverse with our offer and there is work being carried out now to ensure that happens.
“There is so much to build on in Nuneaton and we are determined to do that.
“This scheme is about action and tangible success, we are here to assist with real growth not just for Nuneaton as a town but the businesses in it.”
