Borough Plan is adopted

Published on Monday, 10th June 2019

Nuneaton and Bedworth’s Borough Plan has been formally adopted by the Council, paving the way for economic growth and thousands of additional homes across the Borough.

The Plan was approved at tonight’s meeting of Full Council; it has been several years in the making and is the product of meticulous research with many rounds of public consultation. It sets out the Council’s ambitions for residential and commercial development to help to create a sustainable economy.

Providing a framework for development within the Borough for the next decade and beyond, the Plan allows the Council, its partners and the local community to shape the future of our towns, boost commercial growth, attract investment, meet local housing needs and create healthy, vibrant communities.

Cllr Neil Phillips, Deputy Leader of the Borough Council and portfolio holder for Planning and Development said:

“The Borough Plan is key to a prosperous future. It’s important for so many reasons - to attract investment, to strengthen our local economy, to meet our housing needs and to build thriving communities.

“The adoption of the Plan is wonderful news for our Borough. It’s been through an incredibly rigorous process to get to this stage – it has taken some time, but we can now all be satisfied that the Plan is robust and sound.

“The Plan provides a balance between our aspirations for development and the provision of open space; it fulfils our legal obligations and satisfies Government requirements. We will continue to keep our promise to residents to review the plan as Government guidelines are already changing.

Everyone has worked tremendously hard to get this right and I am especially grateful for the commitment of officers and the input of residents.”

The Borough Plan is adopted with immediate effect. Further information can be found on the Council’s website at
