Is your business Brexit ready? – Help is on hand

Published on Tuesday, 26th March 2019

Leaving the EU means your business may need to prepare for change. This can seem like a daunting task, but there is no need to navigate Brexit alone, there is plenty of support available to guide you.

The Preparing for EU Exit website is the central site for guidance aimed at businesses and individuals. The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has created a Small Business Brexit Pack, detailing what small businesses should be aware of in the event of various Brexit scenarios.

Lee Osborne, FSB Development Manager for Warwickshire and Coventry said:

“Whatever the Brexit outcome, small businesses will need time and support to adapt to the UK’s future relationship with the EU.

FSB has put together a Brexit toolkit, which sets out what smaller businesses should be thinking about as we leave the EU and it provides clear information outlining all the main Brexit outcomes and scenarios. It also includes business continuity and contingency planning to help support small businesses in addressing the impact of whatever the Brexit outcome will be.

Locally, the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) Growth Hub are on hand to support your business through Brexit and beyond. They have produced a simple ten step guide to ensure your business is Brexit ready. Craig Humphrey, CWLEP Growth Hub Managing Director said:

“Our message to our Coventry & Warwickshire businesses is that they need to assess the risks they may be facing. There are steps they can take now to set their business up for whatever challenges the exit from the EU will bring.

“We understand this is a daunting task - so the Growth Hub team have developed a Brexit roadmap. This roadmap will support businesses by highlighting simple steps they can take to mitigate the impact across all aspects of their business.

“We are here to offer support with any preparation and to help businesses understand what they can do to protect themselves now.”

The Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce was the first in the country to set up a Brexit helpline to provide advice and support to businesses following the 2016 referendum result.

On their website you can find a Brexit Checklist created to help businesses consider the changes that Brexit may bring to their firm, and to help business planning at both operational and Board levels.

James Ahearne MIEx, International Trade Hub Manager said:

“The key piece of advice to businesses is that it is never too late to prepare for EU Exit. The Chamber of Commerce is the go-to place that businesses use for information and support on this issue. We run briefing events to keep companies up to date with the Brexit process and we offer several workshops on the subject as well as providing 1 to 1 support to help businesses of all sizes prepare for Brexit.”
