Market cancellation as storm Gareth brings gusts of up to 46mph

Published on Friday, 15th March 2019

Forecasters are warning of another extremely windy day on Saturday with storm Gareth still in force and predicted gusts of up to 46mph.

Therefore the decision has been made to cancel the market in Nuneaton tomorrow, Saturday 16 March.

The severity of the winds forecast during the storm are beyond the recommended tolerance for the stalls and make it unsafe to set up and run the market.

Jonathan White, Head of Town Centres and Marketing for the Council said:

“It is unfortunate to have to cancel the market but we have no choice, the safety of traders and the public must always come first.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused but I am sure that everyone would understand that risks cannot be taken when it comes to the safety of individuals.”

This will be a full market cancellation with no trading from vehicles or temporary structures.

It is understand that a number of other local markets are also considering cancelling their Saturday markets on similar grounds.
