High Court Injunction Update

Published on Wednesday, 27th February 2019

Over recent months the Council has been working to secure a high court injunction to protect its land from unauthorised traveller incursions in conjunction with Warwickshire County Council.

Last Friday, 22nd February, the application for an interim injunction was submitted to the High Court. The Court listed the hearing to take place on the first available date of 19th March 2019.

Cllr John Beaumont, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Health and Communities said:

“We have been working hard to ensure that this application runs smoothly, including utilising the services of a specialist barrister and collecting a substantial quantity of evidence to present to the court.

“Unauthorised traveller encampments can be deeply distressing for the local community as well as frustrating and costly for the Council. I would like to thank our residents for their patience on this matter and reassure them that we are doing all we can to secure a successful application.

“We will provide residents with an update on the progress of the injunction following the court date on the 19th March”

The Council are now in the process of serving the application paperwork and evidence to all of the travellers named in the application and the sites identified to be protected.
