New garden waste collection service opt-in information

The Council’s new paid-for garden waste collection service commenced on Monday 4 February and there has been some confusion around dates for opting-in.

To clarify, residents can opt-in to the new service at any time of the year, however, there are no part-year discounts and there may be a wait of up to 10 working days for the collection service to begin. Therefore, the earlier residents opt-in the more cost effective the service will be.

Councillor Jill Sheppard, Portfolio holder for Central Services and Refuse said:

“There has been some confusion as to when residents can opt-in to the new garden waste scheme. We encouraged residents to opt-in at the start to avoid any disruption to their service and to encourage the most cost-effective solution, but they do have the option to sign up at any time throughout the year, we hope that this clarifies the situation.”
