Green bin collection scheme starts soon
Published on Friday, 18th January 2019
The new green bin collection scheme will start on Monday 4th February with free collections ceasing after today.
To ensure you receive green bin collections from the 4th Feb, we’re reminding residents to make sure to opt in to the scheme today. You can opt in to the scheme at any time throughout the service year, however there will be no discounts to the £40 annual charge and there is a waiting time of up to 10 days from payment, before customer’s services will begin. The scheme will run annually from the start of February to the end of January.
The Council is required to achieve required savings of over £1m in the next financial year and therefore has had to look carefully at its spending on discretionary services. The green waste collection is a service which the Council has no legal duty to provide, and was highlighted in a recent survey as an area in which local residents would be prepared to accept a move towards charging in order to protect more crucial front line services.
For those residents who do not wish to opt in to the scheme, we would recommend to considering composting or taking any additional waste to Judkins Household Recycling Centre. Details of composting deals and Judkins opening times can be found on Warwickshire County Council’s website www.warwickshire.gov.uk
