Ballot box at polling station

Voters in Nuneaton and Bedworth are being reminded about several key dates in the run up to polling day.

This year’s Local Government elections will take place on Thursday, 2 May, 2024, and electors must ensure they are eligible before then.

Electors will also be able to vote for the Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner at the same time.

If you need to register to vote, the last day to do so is Tuesday, 16 April 2024.

And the deadline to register for a postal vote is Wednesday, 17 April 2024, at 5:00pm.

If you cannot make it to the polling station and want to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf, the deadline for you to apply is Wednesday, 24 April 2024, at 5:00pm.

Also, for the first time, an appropriate photo ID as defined by the Government is needed to vote.

There are a number of acceptable types of photo ID that you can use, but if you do not have any of these you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate is Wednesday, 24 April at 5:00pm.

Returning Officer Brent Davis, Chief Executive of Nuneaton and Bedworth, said:

“We would like to make sure that everyone in our borough who is eligible to vote has the chance to do so in these forthcoming elections.

“There is still time for people to ensure they can vote, and we suggest they take any necessary steps they need to in plenty of time.’’

Further advice about voter ID can be obtained from the Electoral Commission.
