Free activities, a family events day, and fantastic new exhibitions will be taking place over Easter at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery.

To tie in with the Fifty Years of Change exhibition, there are a selection of events to take visitors back to the 1970s.

  • Thursday, 28 March: make a 1970's inspired kipper tie
  • Friday, 29 March: make a 1970's inspired mask
  • Saturday, 30 March: Victorian family event
  • Thursday, 4 April: make a 1970's inspired medallion
  • Friday 5, April: make a 1970's dress up doll

Activities run from 10:30am to 3:30pm, there is no need to book, just drop in. Activities are free, but donations are welcomed. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Catherine Nisbet, Museum and Arts Officer, said:

“Join us for a bumper hands-on Easter Saturday Victorian Family Event when you can find out more about how they lived and meet an upper-class Victorian family to find out more about everyday life for the well off and get hands on with artefacts.

“Visitors can also meet the celebrated Professor Septimus Ringwood of London, quack medicine seller, accompanied by his wife Mistress Prudence Ringwood.

“Before the National Health Service, medicine and treatment were very expensive.

“The less well off in society would seek out men like ‘Professor' Ringwood, who peddled dubious wares at fairs and markets. He had a sideline in tooth pulling, and audiences are always fascinated by dental equipment of yesteryear.

“Younger visitors can participate in a Victorian themed make and take and this event is suitable for all ages, just drop in.  There is no charge, but donations are welcome.’’

There are also two new Exhibitions opening on Easter Saturday.

“Wiv Luv Larry”

Our celebratory exhibition about local comedian Larry Grayson returns with some new exhibits. Learn about his life in Larry’s own words.

The exhibition features the letters he wrote to superfan Pauline as well as numerous images and ephemera collected by Margaret Kane along with his big red book from, 'This is Your Life' and many rarely seen private photographs on loan from his nephew Mike Malyon.

It also includes a Dress Up Larry, bow tie interactive and colouring sheets which celebrate Larry’s always dapper appearance.

50 Years of Change

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough is fifty years old this year and the exhibition looks at how things have changed in this time, whether it’s what we wear, how we communicate or how the borough looks and will be a real blast from the past.

While at the Museum, why not check out our temporary exhibitions.
