Work to transform a six acre former council site into an all-affordable housing development close to Nuneaton town centre is now underway.

The St Mary’s Road site is among a number of exciting new developments in the pipeline between leading housing association Midland Heart and Derby-based developer Partner Construction Ltd.

Joe Reeves, Executive Director of Growth and Corporate Affairs, Midland Heart, said:

“We have successfully worked with Partner Construction before and are delighted to be further cementing our relationship with the £14.5m St Mary’s Road development.

“There is much need for new affordable housing in Nuneaton with demand outstripping supply. This is a significant development for Midland Heart – 83 houses and 12 flats – and all will be at affordable rent or for shared ownership, giving first time buyers a chance to step on to the property ladder. This is very much in line with our ambition to develop in areas where people want to live and where quality affordable housing is in demand.”

Leigh Cresswell, Managing Director of Partnership Construction, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Midland Heart once again on what is the largest single contract since our formation in 2011.

“This is great news for our business to have secured such a prestigious project and we look forward to building a strong working relationship as we progress the development, creating homes for people to enjoy.”

The site - a base for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s maintenance and cleaning teams since 1959 – is close to existing amenities, other residential development and the town centre and within walking distance of the town’s bus and rail stations.

Brent Davis, Executive Director, Operations, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said:

“This new development will deliver many new affordable homes for local residents and do much to enhance this pleasant residential area.

“The land has been released for development following the relocation of the council depot to a more suitable location and the move has been welcomed positively by local residents.”

Midland Heart and Partner Construction are already on site together at Bagworth, Leicester and are looking to develop further opportunities for affordable housing.
