Published on Friday, 25th May 2018

Lucky winners of the Council’s new Borough Lottery are urging others to buy tickets and get behind local good causes.

Sandra White, who won £2,000 in the very first draw and Jacqueline Rose, who won an Everyone Active family swimming pass, are both delighted with their prizes and also thrilled to have made a real difference for the local charities and community groups they have chosen to support.

51 good causes have signed up for the Borough Lottery so far and the door is always open for others to sign up. Sandra, who nominated Volunteer Friends and The History Hub said:

“I signed up to the Lottery because it’s such an easy way to support local charities and community groups. With 50 pence going directly to the group of your choice each time you buy a £1 ticket, it’s a fantastic way to do your bit locally.

“The Borough Lottery is all about local groups and that’s why I decided to sign up – it’s so good to see the money invested in my own community. There are some fantastic prizes too and far more chance of winning than in the National Lottery.”

Jacqueline, who volunteers for Nuneaton Memories, signed up especially to support this local charity. She said:

“The Borough Lottery has made a huge difference for local groups by providing a sustainable income source. For Nuneaton Memories it means that we can pay for the equipment and insurances we need to continue the valuable work we do with local care homes and others in the community.

“It’s just so easy to play the Borough Lottery and with everything being online, there’s no chance of losing your ticket!

“I’d encourage others to play our Lottery, it’s such a great way to support local charities and there’s the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes too.”

The Council’s Leader Cllr Julie Jackson congratulated the winners. She said:

“I am absolutely delighted by the early success of our Borough Lottery – it’s wonderful to see how residents are getting behind local good causes.

“Things have got off to an exciting start with some nice big wins – perhaps someone will win the £25,000 jackpot soon!

“I’d like to thank everyone who has bought tickets so far and hope even more people join in – Sandra and Jacqueline are great ambassadors for the Borough Lottery and they are actively encouraging others to join in. Knowing the generosity of Nuneaton and Bedworth people, I’m sure that our Lottery will go from strength to strength and become one of the most successful in the UK.”

Tickets for the Borough Lottery cost £1, with 60p supporting good causes and the balance going to running costs and prizes. Go to www.BoroughLottery.co.uk to buy tickets or for further details. Local good causes can also join up at the same web address.
