Cllr Julie Jackson has been appointed as the new Council Leader, taking over from Dennis Harvey who held the position for some thirty years. Cllr Ian Lloyd has been appointed as the Deputy Leader, the role formerly undertaken by Cllr Jackson. Portfolio holders have been confirmed as Cllr Jackson (Finance and Civic Affairs), Cllr Lloyd (Arts, Leisure and Economic Development), Cllr Barry Longden (Housing, Health and Communities), Cllr Neil Phillips (Planning and Development) and Cllr Jill Sheppard (Central Services and Refuse).
Cllr Watkins said:
“I am very proud to have been elected Mayor of this wonderful Borough. It’s going to be a very busy year, but I am really relishing the challenges ahead.
"I’m supporting Doorway as my chosen charity – it’s a cause very close to my heart and I’m hoping to raise the profile and important funds for the great things they do locally.
“It is such a great honour to be elected to represent our citizens.”
The new Leader Cllr Jackson said:
“Although our former Leader, Dennis Harvey has never sought recognition for his years of tireless service, I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to him and thank him for his all he has done for this Borough. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside him.
“Dennis’ leadership and vision have served Nuneaton and Bedworth residents well for some thirty years and he has left us in a position of strength to face the challenges ahead. He will be very much missed and we all wish him well.
“I take up my new post with great pride; it is such an honour to have been elected to lead the Borough Council. Together with my skilled and dedicated colleagues, I will ensure that we continue to deliver excellent services to our community and as always, put our residents’ interests at the very heart of everything that we do.”
