Unprecedented lottery wins in Nuneaton and Bedworth

Published on Wednesday, 2nd May 2018

Gatherwell Ltd, the Council’s official lottery operator, has reported an exceptional number of wins in the new Borough Lottery.

Compared to similar local lotteries elsewhere, the number of players winning prizes in the first draw of Nuneaton and Bedworth’s Borough Lottery is ‘unprecedented’.

The first draw took place on Saturday night and the results have been published on the Borough Lottery website. One lucky winner matched five numbers and won £2,000 and four others matched three, each winning £25. A host of other players matched two numbers and won tickets for future draws.

In addition to the cash prizes, five tickets were selected at random to win family swim passes, which were kindly donated by Everyone Active, the Council’s leisure provider.

This first draw has well and truly set the ball rolling for good causes, with hundreds of pounds already raised and projected ticket sales looking good for future income. So far, 42 good causes have signed up and the door is always open for new groups to apply.

Cllr Dennis Harvey, Leader of the Council said:

“I am delighted with the local response to our Borough lottery – ticket sales exceeded our expectations and indeed went far beyond the original, ambitious target we had in mind.

“It is wonderful to see how many of the winners in this first draw are local people and I hope that there will be many more in future draws.

“Of course, the other big winners here are our local charities and community groups who have registered as good causes; these groups have the chance to benefit directly from ticket sales. Our Borough Lottery is proving to be really good news for the voluntary sector and it is fantastic to be able to support these worthwhile organisations in this way.”

Tickets cost £1 with 60p going towards local organisations – more than double the National Lottery. Players can select a specific local cause to support or donate their money to a collective community fund.

The weekly lottery is drawn every Saturday, with prizes ranging from free tickets to a jackpot of £25,000 being awarded for matching six numbers. Players can choose to donate all their winnings to good causes if they wish.
